The same assistant, the same key and the same balance, wherever you open it.

The web app

nymbot.ai/app is a progressive web app: it runs in any modern browser and installs to the home screen or dock without a store. Offline it will show you everything you have already said — your history is stored locally, encrypted to your key — but a reply needs the network, since the model is not on your device.

It is the reference implementation. Every feature described in this knowledge base is there first.

Android and iOS

The mobile app is the same product built natively, so the keystore, the share sheet and the system theme behave the way the platform expects. It talks to exactly the same service, and a conversation started on a phone is readable on the web and the other way around.

Reply notifications

A long reply can take a minute or more. With Notify me when a reply is ready on in Settings, which is the default, you can leave the app while Nymbot works and get a notification when the reply is ready. Tap it and the app opens that chat and collects the reply. If you are looking at that chat when the reply lands, there is no notification. Turn the setting off and none of what follows happens.

The first time you send a message with the setting on, your phone asks whether Nymbot may send notifications. Say no and nothing is shown or registered.

On Android it all stays on your device. While a reply is pending and the app is in the background, Android shows a quiet “Waiting for Nymbot's reply…” notification, which is what keeps the app running so the reply can arrive. When it does, the app posts “Nymbot replied” with the chat's title, read from your device and never sent anywhere. The waiting notification goes away as soon as nothing is pending or you open the app.

On iOS an app in the background cannot wait for a reply, so the notification comes through Apple's push service. When you leave the app with a reply pending, it sends the Nymbot service three things for that one reply:

• the device token Apple issued so this app on this device can receive notifications,
• an opaque id for the chat, made on your device, so tapping the notification opens the right one, and
• a generic line such as “Your reply is ready”, in your language.

Never the chat's title, your message or the reply. The service keeps the token only until that one reply is finished, and never longer than ten minutes, then sends a single notification through Apple and deletes it. Apple sees that a notification with that generic line went to your device. The reply itself still reaches the app end-to-end encrypted, the way every reply does.

One account everywhere

Your key is the account. Point a second device at the same nsec and it is the same account, with the same balance and the same conversations restored from the relays.

Your settings come along too, in a record end-to-end encrypted with your key: workspaces, bots, memory and the rest, including your repository and connector tokens, so a chat that uses them works on the new device right away. See what syncs between your devices.

What does not travel is whatever unlock method you chose for identity encryption. That is set up per device on purpose.

Announcements

Now and then the app shows a short notice at the top of the chat: a new model, a change worth knowing about, or something going wrong. It can carry a link to read more, and a notice about a new model can have a Try it button.

Dismiss one and it stays dismissed. To stop seeing them altogether, turn off Show announcements in Settings.

Nymbot inside Nymchat

Nymchat is a full messenger — public channels, group chats, private messages, calls, a Bluetooth mesh — and Nymbot lives inside it as one more conversation, plus a set of ? commands that work in any channel.

This app is that conversation on its own: no channels, no contacts, no mesh. If all you want is the assistant, this is the smaller thing. If you want the messenger too, install Nymchat and sign in with the same key — your credits and your Nymbot history are already there.
